There is something about the 4th of July in South Florida that feels unlike anywhere else in the country.

The fireworks over Biscayne Bay. The neighborhoods filled with families celebrating together. The feeling of community that you find in places like Palmetto Bay, Cutler Bay, Coral Gables, Pinecrest, and South Miami — communities where people genuinely know their neighbors and take pride in where they live.

I have had the privilege of calling South Florida home for most of my life — and Cutler Cay specifically for the past 21 years. This July 4th I am thinking about how grateful I am to be part of communities this special. Communities where people put down real roots. Where families grow up and stay. Where neighbors look out for each other.

The best thing about South Florida is not the weather or the waterways — it is the communities. And I am grateful every single day to call this home.

A little bit about the communities we celebrate today

Coral Gables is celebrating 100 years of its iconic Mediterranean architecture, its canopy streets, and its extraordinary sense of place. There is nowhere quite like it in all of Florida.

Palmetto Bay is the kind of community where families put down roots for generations — top rated schools, beautiful parks, and a genuine small town feeling just minutes from everything Miami has to offer.

Cutler Bay and Cutler Cay offer something increasingly rare in South Florida — a true sense of neighborhood. Gates, canals, community events, and neighbors who know each other by name.

Pinecrest combines estate living with an extraordinary quality of life — large lots, mature trees, and a peaceful atmosphere that feels worlds away from the hustle of the city even though it is right in the heart of Miami-Dade.

South Miami brings the warmth of a walkable small city with the energy and diversity that makes this region so unique. The kind of place where everyone knows the coffee shop owner and the restaurants feel like extensions of your living room.
