3 Things Losing a Listing Taught Me About South Florida Real Estate

After losing a listing she spent days preparing for, South Florida Realtor Sandra Alonso shares 3 honest lessons about this business, resilience, and what really matters.
A few weeks ago I lost a listing appointment before I ever walked through the door. I had spent days preparing — a complete market analysis, a net proceeds sheet, a full presentation. Two minutes on the phone and it was gone.
I wrote the full story on my website this week. But the short version is this — it hurt, I kept going, and it taught me three things I want to share.
Lesson 1 — Preparation is never wasted
Everything I built for that presentation — the CMA, the net proceeds sheet, the marketing plan — became the foundation for the next appointment. Work done in earnest is never truly lost. It compounds.
Lesson 2 — Grace under disappointment is a competitive advantage
I sent the seller a gracious text the same day. No bitterness. No pressure. Just genuine good wishes. That text took thirty seconds and it reflects the kind of agent I am trying to be every single day — whether someone chooses me or not.
Lesson 3 — The day after is what defines you.
The next day I mailed seventeen letters, made calls, wrote articles, and kept building. Not because I was not disappointed. Because showing up anyway is the whole job.
If you want to read the full story — and understand who you would actually be working with before you hire a Realtor — it is on my website this week.
